Newport Community Choir

The Newport Community Choir started up in October 2008 and has been going strong since then, rehearsing regularly and performing at local venues.

Everyone welcome

Come along, join us and experience the fun of singing with others in a supportive environment. There are no auditions, just join in and have a go! There is a place in this choir for everyone – whether you have a little experience as a singer, a lot or none at all. We perform regularly at NFFC events and other community gatherings..

Choir leader: Alan Davies

Since first joining a choir in 1999, Alan has sung in choirs large and small and has led singing workshops for schools and festivals. Along with his musical skills, Alan has developed a passion for choral singing and a firm belief that singing is for everyone.

'Curlews Fly' video

We made this video during the 2020 lockdown, for World Migratory Bird Day.

  • Pigogo - a South African song from the Children of Agape

  • Flyway - A beautiful song about the migration of the Red-Necked Stint, by local composer Fiona Price

  • John Brown's Body - one of the best-known of all American folk songs, for good reason

  • Stay With Me - a Taizé hymn, sung in English and German

  • L'eguaglianza - an Italian workers' song from the 1930s

Songs for practice

A few notes about these tracks:

  • If you just let it play on after the track is finished, it will go on to the next track, e.g. Soprano will go on to Alto. Best to stop the track once it's finished, otherwise it gets confusing.

  • On a phone, it will display the first track as the main heading (e.g. "Soprano"). The title of the song will be in the sub-heading, e.g. "NCC - Istanbul".

  • You can download any track you want, if that helps.
