Old Timey Session
The Newport Old Timey Session is a fun way to learn old-time and bluegrass tunes and songs - and meet a bunch of people who like this stuff as much as you!
It runs on a few principles that make it different from a standard old-time session:
-
Musicians, of all ages, are welcome, whether experienced or just starting out
-
The session consists of two parts: the first hour focusses on supported learning of tunes/songs; the second hour is a fun jam session
-
Written music is provided for the supported learning; in the jam session people are free to use sheet music or not
-
Any musical instrument is welcome, but the focus is on traditional string band instruments, e.g. fiddle, guitar, banjo, dobro, mandolin, bass, washboard...etc.
-
The repertoire is based on traditional old-time and bluegrass dance tunes and songs
